Rare antique 19th-century Polish patriotic commemorative Olszynka Grochowska Cross.
In Poland, in the 19th century, Olszynka Grochowska crosses were made from alder branches found in the Olszynka woods were crafted to honor the Battle of Olszynka Grochowska. During this battle on February 25, 1831, the Polish army, commanded by General Józef ChÅ‚opicki, fought against the Russian army, successfully preventing them from storming Warsaw.

Some crosses were made as pendants to be worn on the chain around the neck, and others hung on the wall as national relics.

The cross consists of two pieces of black lacquered wood with arms of light brown turned wooden ends. The cross is embossed in silvered metal Corpus Christi. The head of Christ has long hair, and at the back, there is a crown of thorns in the middle of the rays. At the top is a scroll with the monogram INRI and Memento Mori, and at the bottom is a skull and crossbones.
All are secured to the cross by iron nails. The iron suspension loop is affixed to the top finial of the cross.
MEASUREMENTS:
The dimensions of the cross, including the suspension loop, are 16.5 x 8.5 cm (6.5 x 3.35 inches).
CONDITION: It is in very good condition. It shows signs of age and use. No repairs or restorations.
