Antique 19th Century Oil On Canvas Painting Jewish Couple Fleeing From Pogrom Judaica

Antique 19th-century painting, dated 1882. Large oil on canvas depicts a Jewish couple fleeing from a pogrom in a winter landscape, pursued by persecutors symbolized as vampires, devils, and ghosts.
The painting is meticulously hand-painted with superb skills, harmonious and vibrant colors, and exquisite nuances. The couple is depicted realistically with body movement and faces painted with an expression of fear and uncertainty.
It is signed illegibly by the artist lower right, either as LE- BA-G or LE- BA-F or LE- BA-C and dated 86 (1886), with other unreadable writing below.

POGROMS:

Amidst political and economic turmoil in Western and Central Europe, nationalism became a rallying cry and pseudo-scientific ideas about race proliferated. A wave of antisemitism affected Jews within Europe and throughout the world in European colonies. From Russia to Damascus, and Danzig to Algiers, Jews were attacked as infiltrators and blamed for a wide range of social and economic problems. Accusations and rumors led to riots and pogroms (a Russian word that means to violently destroy, used to describe the riots in Eastern Europe in the 19th and early 20th centuries that resulted in the rape and murder of Jews and the theft and destruction of their property).

MEASUREMENTS:
Dimensions with frame:127.5 cm x 87 cm (50.2 x 34,25 inches).
Dimensions without the frame: 115 cm x 73 cm (45.28 x 28.74 inches).

CONDITION: The painting is in good condition and shows some wear and minor craquelure in the lower right, which are common signs of aging in old oil paintings. There are no holes or restorations. The wooden stretcher has an old crack, strengthened brackets, and modern hardware.
