Antique 19th Century Islamic Indonesian Javanese Quran Stand Kursi Rahla

$700.00
Quantity available: 1

A very rare antique 19th century Islamic Indonesian Javanese Quran stand, known as a kursi or Rahla, in a typical folding X form. The piece consists of two red cinnabar-lacquered wooden rectangular panels connected by hinges in the center. The sides are adorned with finely hand-carved flower heads and intricate interlocking foliage scrolls highlighted with gold dye. This work is enclosed in an elaborately carved frame with gold and black accents.

Quran stands like these are beautifully crafted items designed for use in mosques, mausoleums, or homes. Traditionally, in religious settings, Quran stands play a crucial role by maintaining the respect due to the Quran, as they elevate it above the ground.

Please note that this is a rare, museum-quality Indonesian Qur'an stand. Most other Qur'an stands available on the market are from the Near East, Western Asia, or the Indian subcontinent.
