Antique Armenian bronze traveling pen case with inkwell, Divit Qalamdan, from the 18th-19th century Ottoman Empire, stamped with Armenian letters.

The rectangular pen case features pronounced rounded terminals, one of which is hinged. Both terminals are engraved with floral vine designs. The barrel-shaped, truncated rectangular inkwell includes a hinged cover and a small turning latch.

A Divit Qalamdan is a pen and inkwell set traditionally used by scribes and calligraphers in the Ottoman Empire. The set typically consists of a long pen box designed for storing brushes and pens, and a square container for holding dry ink. These pen cases were often carried by scribes who traveled to serve government officials and merchants.

REFERENCES: A similar Armenian bronze pen case is documented in the book "Samples of Armenian Silver Work" (Հայ Արծաթագործության Նմուշներ), on page 44. No 19.

The buyer will be provided with a copy of the pages from the mentioned references and a certificate of authenticity.

NOTE: With over 50 years of experience in handling antiques, I can confidently say that Armenian antique Divit pen cases are very rare and seldom available for sale. We have explored various sources, including the internet, in our search for Armenian Divit pen cases currently on the market, but we have been unable to find any other Armenian pen cases for sale apart from ours.
