Antique Burl Mallet 3 Pound

$45.00
Quantity available: 1

This is a nice 3 pound total weight hardwood burl mallet in good useable condition. As you can see it has been used over the years, with a bit of rounded edges and some small chipped off area along the edges also. The handle is hardwood, and has a nice turned design tiny holes in it here and there, otherwise very good shape very solid. The burl section itself is 3.4 inch diameter x 6 inch long and the burl and handle length together is 13.3 overall. The burl is in pretty good shape, no fractures or cracks noted that go through for any distance, a few mild grain separations, overall, very solid. A nice primitive stone carver, cutter mallet! Nice looking grain on the burl! The burl sections of a hardwood tree have often been used for wood turning over the years because of the unique grain pattern. On mallets, the burl is used because of the burl woods' resistance to cracking, it's density, (heavier compared to standard hardwood grain), and it's resistance to cracking under stress. This one has obviously held up under stress over the years, as you can see the wear on it from use.
