A very rare antique Chinese Cizhou iron-red and green polychrome pear-shaped 'yuhuchun' bottle vase from the Jin or Yuan dynasty, China, dating back to 960-1234 A.D. This well-potted pear-shaped (yuhuchun) body rests on a disc-shaped foot, narrowing to a waisted neck with a trumpet mouth. The surface is fully covered with a soft, creamy-white slip and a glossy transparent glaze and painted underglaze in iron-red enamel with carp amongst green and iron-red lotus flowers and plants.

The neck of the piece is decorated with iron-red bands and blossoms, while the lower part, near the foot, is embellished with iron-red bands and buds accompanied by green stems.

The base is unglazed, revealing the grayish body of the piece.

 

MEASUREMENTS (approximately).

Height: 24.5 cm (9.65 inches).

Width: 11 cm (4.33 inches).

Weight: 730 grams (25.75 ounces)

 

CONDITION: Showing age and usage, foot with traces of earthen encrustation. Excellent preservation for its age. No cracks, repairs, or restorations.
