The double-edged long steel blade is finely silver, and gold damascened on both sides with figures of Chinese deities, lettering, Imperial celestial dragons (Tianlong), and seven stars. Those stars are represented “The Big Dipper Constellation”, an important motif in Taoism.
Both sides of the ricasso are silver inlaid with Emperor Qianlong “SIX-CHARACTER SEAL MARK OF THE PERIOD” (1736-1795) in double squares.
The gold damascening on the sword blade is inlaid with fine gold wire. However, due to the intense lighting used during the photo shoot, the light yellow-gold inlay is not visible in the pictures.
The pommel and crossguard of the sword are made of brass and have been intricately shaped to resemble dragons. The grip is composed of two ox bone scales engraved with figures of Chinese deities donning traditional costumes on both sides.
The brass-shaped pommel and crossguard of the hilt are finely hand chiseled with horned dragon amidst waves.
The scabbard is made of lacquered wood and is adorned with large brass fittings that have been superbly hand pierced and engraved with horned dragons.
CONDITION: Shows age and use. Bone grip scales are worn from use, blade is slightly bent, the wooden lacquered scabbard has minor cracks, and the lacquer on the scabbard is chipped, somewhat.
