Antique Civil War Eagle Pommel Large Bowie Knife with American Eagle

Beautiful antique 19th century Civil War Era large eagle pommel Bowie knife with massive clip point steel blade. The hilt composed of one piece carve horn grip mounted in cast and finely chiseled silver-plated brass mounting, including recurved crossguard with shell terminals. The central block is adorned at front with chiseled American Eagle with spread wings clutching a bundle of an olive branches in its talons, the back of the central block is adorned with Bowie knife and the shield amongst olive branches. The grip is surmounted with Eagle pommel with its integral backstrap finely chiseled with wings and the tail of the eagle.
Scabbard is made of thick brown tooled leather hand stitched at the back and fitted with large shaped silver-plated brass chape and locked with a large, solid belt clip chiseled with a five-pointed star, laurel wreath and the leave.
Since the steel blade is pitted there is not visible maker mark, in these circumstances, we do not know by hue this spectacular Bowie knife was made.

Length of the knife without scabbard: 46 cm (11.11 inches).
Length of the blade: 33.5 cm (13 .19 inches).
Width of the blade at the widest point: 3.8 cm (1.5 inches).
Thickness of the blade at the spine: 6 mm (0.35 inches).
Total weight: 623 grams (1.373 lb.)
Condition: Blade pitted, silver-plating mounting of the hilt and scabbard slightly worn with minor scratches. Some stitches on the leather scabbard are worn. The blade is still very sharp.
