THis button pinback has the patent date of 1800 on the back on the rim of this. As you can see, the background is hand painted gold leaf, with the portrait that was produced on top of that. Some of the old portrait buttons with women on the front, be it with transfer or painting, had the gold background, but you don't see many with the men much less the President. As a matter of fact I have never seen one with the president. This brooch is 1 1\/3" across and is guaranteed to be an antique and not a reproduction.
