Antique English Art Nouveau Portrait Tile

Here is a very rare and unusual tile.

This portrait was originally sculpted by Isaac Broome for the Providential Tile Works c. 1886-1890, Trenton, NJ; I offer an example for sale here at Inventory No. AP1009. Isaac Broome also used the same profile when he sculpted an image for the Beaver Falls Art Tile Company, Beaver Falls, PA c. 1890-1899. Somehow the image was also produced by the English firm J & W Wade's Flaxman Tile Works, Stoke-on-Trent, c. 1900. The tile is dust pressed and deeply molded; it is finished in a very sophisticated and unusual translucent glaze which varies from charcoal, brown to a lavender-tinged gray in places.  There are very very few examples of Broome's work produced at the Flaxman Works in existence. This tile is in excellent condition with only superficial wear; there is an underglaze frit to the left of the figure's profile which is original to the tile.  A previous owner affixed nails to the back of the tile for hanging. One remains.

Please write with any questions you may have and specify which of the two tiles you are interested in.
