Antique Indian Islamic bronze incense burner-censer India, 17th-18th century of square form on four feet with a domed lid and long handle.
The lid is pierced and engraved with openwork lattice pattern, topped with a shaped bulbous finial. The curved handle, which terminates downward, is engraved at the top with scrollwork and adorned with shaped bands.
Long-handled, footed incense burners are widely known throughout the Islamic Near East. However, those with a square body and a high domed lid, decorated with an openwork lattice pattern, are distinctive features of medieval Islamic incense burners from the 11th to 13th centuries, specifically of the Umayyad and Khurasan types.
The censer is primarily made of bronze, not brass. The quality of the casting, the shape of the legs, the engraving on the handle and lid, and signs of wear and patina all indicate the age of the item. Additionally, the interior contains coal and incense deposits, further indicating its antiquity.

This style of Indian bronze incense burners, which resembles medieval Khurasan censers, has been produced in India from the 13th century to the present without any changes in design. Additionally, other Indian objects, such as swords and tulwar daggers, have been crafted for centuries following the same traditional patterns.

This exquisite censer is an authentic antique dating back to the 17th or 18th century, and it may even be older.
