Rare antique18th century Indian Rajasthani silver decorated lacquered hide shield India Dhal Rajasthan Mughal period. The shield has a circular convex form with an inverted rim and is made of lacquered hide. It is richly applied with finely hand-embossed and chiseled silver plaques in typical Rajasthani style.


The shield's central dome has four silver round bosses, secured on the reverse side by four faceted iron bolts with rosette washers and loops for holding the shield. In the center is a jeweled central medallion in the form of traditional Rajasthani” Borla” surrounded by four auspicious flaming jewels.


The shield's exterior is divided by eight panels flanked by eight radiating silver straps embossed with small circles. Each panel is adorned with nine finely hand-embossed and chiseled silver plaques, including square plaques depicting a figure of a Hindu god Hanuman surrounded by plaques with auspicious symbols.
The shield's edge is applied with a silver band embossed with small circles.

MEASUREMENTS:
Diameter: 35 cm (13.78 inches).

CONDITION: Considering its age, it's in good condition with a lovely old patina.
