Antique North Indian sword Talwar Tulwar 18th century Islamic Mughal India

DETAILS:

Long , sturdy and very sharp single-edged, hand-forged steel blade is cut on each face with a full-length slender fuller along the back-edge

Massive gilt brass hilt of typical North Indian tulwar, of Aurangzebi style is comprised of a cross-guard formed with a faceted knuckle bow is terminating at the top in the form of a dragon head. a pair of quillons with swollen terminals and long shaped langets, baluster grip with disk shaped pommel (katori), with a domed top in the form of flower (phool) surmounted by the bud - shaped finial.

The sword comes with a wooden scabbard bound in hand-stitched fine brown leather.

MEASUREMENTS:
Overall length with the scabbard: 91 cm (35.83 inches)
Overall length without the scabbard: 85 cm (33.46 inches)
Length of the blade: 73 cm (28.74 inches).

Width of the blade at the ricasso: 3.6 cm (1.42 inches).

Thickness of the spine: 6 mm.


CONDITION: Age and usage are showing, the gilding on the hilt is worn , blade slightly pitted ,however in good condition for considering its age to be over 200 years old.
