This is a lovely life-size, allegorical #Italian #marble #statue of L'Orfèvrerie (Goldsmithery) after the original by Roland Mathieu-Meusnier (1824-1896). 75 x 22 x 19 in,  191 x 56 x 48 cm. Inscribed "G.M. Roma".  The original, completed in 1867, is installed on the West façade of the Cour Carrée in the Louvre, Paris.

Meusnier studied at Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and participated in the Paris Salon from 1843 through 1883.  His works in plaster, marble and bronze can be found in the collections of Galerie d'Orsay in Paris, the Granet Museum in Aix-en-Provence, and a number of his sculptures are on display today in public spaces including the Pere-Lachaise Cemetary, the Tuileries Garden and the Comedie Francaise in Paris.

There are scuffs, scratches, surface dirt particularly in crevices, chips and losses, most notably at the edges of the base, plus an apparent restoration to a finger on the right hand. May have additional restorations.”
