$14,500.00
Quantity available: 1

Our client's antique writing box of Dutch or possibly French origin dates from the late seventeenth century.  9 1/2 by 14 by 4 inches.

It features hand-painted decorations including figures on its domed lid walking side-by-side in an allegory of war and peace, plus landscapes and flowers on each side.  The figure to the right is dressed in Roman military attire with pilum spear in his left hand and a red cape. The figure on the left dressed in robes holds an olive branch in right hand and golden orb in right hand. The headdress of the robed figure and helmet of the general are each decorated with blue, red and white feather plumes, symbolic of their common understanding. Original hinges and lock.  Key missing.
