Hotel restaurant plate pair from "The Red Lion Inn" of Stockbridge, Massachusetts, a historic inn established in 1773.  Each top-marked with shield and floral border in brown transfer.  Maddock's Lamberton China of Trenton, NJ back-stamp dates between the 1890's to 1911, though this crest is dated 1897, when the inn was rebuilt after a devastating fire; distributed by Mitchell Woodbury of Boston.  Measure 8 1/8"d.  Have heavy surface wear from utensils, but no chips or cracks to the front; one chip to the foot rim on the bottom of one plate.  Sold as is, and as a pair.  Inglenook Antiques...Established 1989.
