Antique Maine Passamaquoddy Northeast Native American Large Handmade Pot-Belly Splint Feather/Gathering Basket

$424.99
Quantity available: 1

This basket was acquired from a person that purchased it at a shop in northern Maine almost 60 years ago and it was advertised as an antique Passamaquoddy tribe item. There were other shops selling related items in the area due to the prevalence of the tribe in that part of the state. It is in excellent condition for the age and stands out in that there are no significant breaks, water damage present and is complete with the lid.

The piece is the largest that we have come across and is in overall very nice condition with little damage and wear, and fortunately it has not seen any moisture. The cover is in very good shape and fits the opening properly and the basket itself is free of broken or otherwise damaged structural pieces beyond two sections along the opening ring. This area received the most use as arms where rubbing against it when depositing to, and retrieving items from the basket. There are some broken spots in the smallest, most delicate strips and the handles are secure and operate properly with some wear to be found. As a whole it looks very nice and is functional. Please see the pictures for further details.
