A rare antique 19th-century superb-quality miniature silver Parang Jimpul sword of the Sea Dayak Kalimantan headhunters from Borneo, Indonesia.
The solid silver very sharp curved blade is cut with two narrow fullers on each face and slender grooves, and it has a finely shaped, pierced, engraved ricasso inlaid with copper dots.
The blade widens towards the pronounced, finely-shaped, and pierced tip, inlaid with five copper dots.
A hilt of classical Mandau form with an ornate brass pommel pierced and engraved with “aso” motifs, topped by a short hair tuft, a wood grip bound with twisted silver wire, and mounted with a brass ferrule.
Wood scabbard carved with “aso” motifs and bound with three plated rattan bands.

MEASUREMENTS:
The overall length of the sword sheathed in the scabbard, including the hair tuft, is 23cm (9.6 inches).
Overall length without the scabbard: 20 cm (7.87 inches).

CONDITION: Showing age and usage, the wood scabbard is chipped and cracked on one side and has an exceptional age patina.
