Antique, 19th century North African, Morocco-Algeria, Islamic Maghrib, Kabyle, Kabylie, enamel silver, jeweled turban pin brooch, Sarpech -Aigrette (feather support for turban).

Details: This impressive Sarpech is of classical form, composed of several well-made separate elements of solid silver, soldered together, including a long stem with a flower head end. The upper part of the stem is surmounted by an elaborate terminal that is decorated with delicate filigree work adorned with enamel. It is also set with two faceted natural corals and two cabochon natural corals. The reverse side has the original clasp for attachment. It is unmarked, like most antique Moroccan jewelry.

CONDITION: It is in very good condition but has some wear due to age. Please see the photos, as they are a part of the description.

MEASUREMENTS: Overall length is approximately 7.5cm (2.95 inches).

WEIGHT: 14.2 grams.

NOTE: Throughout the Muslim world, the Muslim rulers and Islamic aristocracy wore turban ornaments of various shapes as emblems of might and material wealth; they were trendy in Mughal India, Ottoman Turkey, and the Islamic Persian Empire.

Even in the 19th century, the upper class in Islamic societies still used a turban ornament called Sarpech.
