Antique Polish Painting Miniature Portrait Of Count Mateusz Miączyński 19th Century Poland

$4,000.00
Very rare, museum-quality antique from the first quarter of the 19th century, superb quality, finely hand-painted Polish miniature portrait of Count Mateusz Miączyński (1800 - 1863), coat of arms Suchekomnaty.
The artwork is created using gouache on a natural wafer, and it is backed by cardboard. It is hand-inscribed in ink with: "Mateusz hr Miączyński w mundurze Stanów Galicyjskich."
The count is depicted wearing the uniform of the Estates of Galicia. This elegant uniform is made of dark navy fabric and features a red collar, impressive gold bullion epaulets on the shoulders, and is fastened with gilded buttons at the front.
The miniature is mounted in an oval inner frame made of gold-gilded bronze that is finely hand-chiseled with a checkered pattern. It is covered with flat glass and housed in a rectangular frame made of black ebonized wood, which has suspension mounts affixed at the top.
NOTE:
With more than 50 years of experience in handling antiques, I have come across many miniature portraits, but only a limited number of antique Polish miniature portraits. These Polish miniatures are among the rarest art objects and seldom appear for sale in the international Fine Art market, making them nearly impossible to acquire.
We examined various sources, including reference literature and the internet, in search of additional portraits of Count Mateusz Miączyński, whether in the form of miniatures, larger paintings, or etchings. Unfortunately, we could not find any other portrait of him. Therefore, it is quite possible that our miniature is the only surviving portrait of Count Mateusz Miączyński.
PROVENANCE: Acquired from one of North America's most respected auction houses specializing in high-end fine art and antiques.
MEASUREMENTS :
Dimensions of the wood frame: 12.8 cm x 11.2 cm (5.04 inches x 4.41 inches).
Dimensions of the gold-gilded bronze oval frame: 7.8 cm x 6.7 cm (3.07 inches x 2.64 inches).
CONDITION: The item shows signs of age and use. There is minor wear to the gold gilding on the bronze oval inner frame, and there are small chips on the edges of the wood frame. Additionally, the painting has some cracks.
Please refer to all the photos in the listing, as they provide important details about the item's condition.
