Antique Socket Chisel/Slick Beveled Back 1.5 inch

$55.00
Quantity available: 1

This is a clean and sharp 1.5" wide, bevel back socket chisel that is not marked by the maker. It is very heavy duty with a large oversize socket to mount a heavy duty handle. This one is in nice shape, considering the years. This one has plenty of length, 9.25" cutting edge to end of socket, 14.25" including the handle. We note some minor pitting on the underside, about 1 1/2" back from the current cutting edge, with not effect the cutting edge for quite a few re-sharpenings under normal use. The important area around the cutting edge is very clean as you can see in the pictures. The cutting edge on this chisel holds an edge very well, a pleasure to use! The handle is solid, in this case a wire ferrule is used instead of an iron ferrule, but serves the same purpose, to keep the handle from splitting, which it has, no crack, fits the socket very well, very solid hardwood. This is a good usable chisel most likely from the late 19th century, most likely used in timber frame construction.
