Antique sterling Stamp Box Arts and crafts repousse Hallmarked Sterling Mexico

 

This tiny little stamp box  has a sun flower like design on the top that has been hand hammered.  Stamps were so expensive, that boxes were made to hold them. They became more and more elaborate and each artisan tried to outdo each other. This is hallmarked "Sterling Made in Mexico" and it measures 1 1/3" x 1 1/4". Closes well and the hinges work just fine. Has natural patina that has not been polished.
