Antique late 19th century Tibetan large copper jeweled chest – box for religious Buddhist artifacts. The rectangular box is made of hand-forged thick copper plates, raised on four feet shaped like the crowned masks of Tibetan Buddhist guardians, which are supported by clawed feet.
The two-stage hinged lid is applied on the center with a rectangular plaque adorned with a fine hand repoussé celestial horned dragon. Two plaques flank the dragon, each depicting Amitabha Buddha seated in dhyanasana on a lotus throne, with a nimbus and aureole behind him. His hands are resting in his lap, clad in a sheer sanghati draped over the shoulder, and his hair is in tight curls with the ushnisha capped by a knop. The corners of the lid are decorated with panels showing open work with scrolling dragons. All is surrounded by a border adorned with four celestial horned dragons, rosettes, and paste jewels.
The front and back are adorned with four large horned celestial dragons, while the sides feature mythical beast masks for attaching carrying rings and are adorned with paste jewels.
The rims are bordered with narrow strips, elaborately chiseled in openwork, and soldered to the box. Complete with a latch in the form of a demon mask and a loop plate.
The interior has been lined with new crimson velvet.

CONDITION: The box shows signs of age and use, with some minor dents. The carrying ring is broken, and one of the rosettes and paste jewel at the back are missing. The crimson lining has been replaced at a later stage.
