This Gothic Revival book slide was retailed by Tiffany & Co. of Union Square, New York, circa 1870-1890.   It measures 8" tall, 6.7" deep and 15.7-24.2" wide.   The bookends feature applied metal decorations and are spring-loaded.  The mechanism is worn and the spring tension is weak.  The patina is magnificent and the finish appears to be original.  Possibly produced in England for Tiffany.
