Antique18th – 19th century Turkish Ottoman Armenian brass traveling Scribe's Divit with pen case and inkwell
The pen compartment stamped on the top and underside by the Armenianmaker with his seal with Armenian writings.
The Divit of typical form, the rectangular pen compartment with hinged cover and pronounced finial , the body finely chased and engraved with scrolling foliage and cursive Arabic calligraphy. with a bulbous inkwell of rectangular section with chamfered corners and affix at the top with scallop-shaped hinged lid.
A Divit is a pen and inkwell was traditionally used by scribes and calligraphers in the Ottoman Empire. The set typically consists of a long pen box designed for storing brushes and pens, and a square container for holding dry ink. These pen cases were often carried by scribes who traveled to serve government officials and merchants.
