A gorgeous Nyonya Covered Jar, of Octagon form, featuring, one on each opposite side, a yellow ogival panel, enclosing a phoenix in flight among peonies and Peonies amongst rockery(without Phoenix), base decorated with Buddhist Emblems; with a lion-dog handle on top of cover. Circa 1950.

Aging and scratches are visible on the surface of paint, otherwise the vase is in very good condition. No damage.

For the Chinese these are auspicious symbols of prosperity and good fortune. Baba Nyonya wedding collection from West Malaysia.
