Ohio Tool Co. Socket Corner Chisel 1.0 Inch

This is a top quality heavy duty, socket corner chisel marked OHIO TOOL CO. on the steel. It measures 16.75 inch long x 1.0 inch wide. If you are wondering about the quality of Ohio Tool Co. chisels, I would rate them as above medium for the 1800's period that they were made. The steel is good quality, but a bit softer than some of their competitors, but they do hold a decent edge. Ohio Tool was located in Columbus Ohio from 1823 up to 1920, and they made many types of tools from auger bits to vises. The handle on this one is very solid, looks like ash, solid fit, with the iron ring on the end of the handle. The steel is clean, particularly around the cutting edge area, some very minor pitting on the most areas away from the cutting edge, sharp cutting edge, some minor side edge wear, and no cracks, or rust. A nice, clean, sharp corner framing chisel overall! A hard to find size and rarely seen maker!
