Recently retired from the art scene is famous naif painter Rodolphe Rousseau, the nom de brosse of a lovely and well-born Frenchwoman who has delighted us for years with her scenes of France of the Belle Epoche. It is almost as if she has said, "Reality, don't enter here!" This is one of her best, the gathering of a group of bikers at the cycle shop before a race. It is world we would gladly enter into -- and probably win, if we are Americans. Oil on artist's board, with a preliminary sketch on the back left exposed to show a different approach she abandoned for the final format. Approximately 15 inches by 23-1/2 inches.
