Rare pair of portrait tiled depicting Victorian ladies in large hats from the United States Encaustic Tile Company, Indianapolis, Indiana. The tiles carved in very high relief -- the figures extend out 3/8" from the face of the tiles and so are 3/4 in the round. Given that design, they are in very good condition with wear to the brims of the hats and slightly to the raised collar of the right facing lady. There are a few very small edge nicks as shown and the lower left corner of the right facing lady has been clipped for installation. The tiles is finished in a wonderful bright translucent majolica glaze. Please write with any questions you may have.
