A pair of antique, Armenian, splendid solid silver filigree candy baskets from the end of the 19th - beginning of the 20th century, made of characteristic Armenian fine silver filigree wire, twisted, and soldered with excellent precision. Each rounded form is resting on a ring-shaped foot.
The center is decorated with rosettes with flaring sides and a scalloped rim affixed with braided rope handles. There are no obvious maker's or assays' marks.


REFERENCES: A small tray with a similar Armenian silver filigree artwork, made by an Armenian silversmith from Aleppo, is published in "Samples of Armenian Silver Work Varuzhan and Raida Dovlatyan Collection", page 77. No.64.


The silver filigree of this characteristic pattern was made by Armenian silversmiths during the 19th-early 20th century in the Ottoman Empire in Vilayet in Aleppo, where large Armenian communities played an important cultural and business role for the Armenians in the Ottoman Empire.
