$29,500.00
Quantity available: 1

Our client's pair of lovely antique (late 19th century) giltwood armchairs with twisted rope motif are finely crafted after the original design by A.M.E. Fournier, and are covered in chintz upholstery with red rose floral motif.  Each in very good condition.

The Parisian upholsterer A.M.E. Fournier, active and influential during the Second Empire (1852-1870), is widely known for this unique hand-carved style with twisted cords forming the frame, including seat, seatback, arms and legs which terminate with tassel-form feet, said to have originated circa 1850.  A similar example resides in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and a rope-form stool resides in the collection of the Musée National du Château de Compiègne.
