Prosper Lecourtier (1855-1924) Orientalist Bronze "La Fantasia Arabe"
Our bronze after Prosper LeCourtier (French, 1855-1924), entitled "La Fantasia Arabe" measures 32 by 29.5 by 11.5 inches and is in good condition, with some rubbing wear and scratches. Rifle (cast separately to lay horizontally in the figure's left hand) is missing.
According to Christie's, Lecourtier studied with Jules Coutan and Emmanuel Frémiet and was awarded medals at the French Salon in 1879, 1880 and 1902, and won a bronze medal at the 1900 Exposition Universelle. He was a friend of Hippolyte Moreau and also respected for his figures of hounds and other animals.
