This is a nice, clean 1/2" wide socket gouge chisel that is marked "P.S. & W. CO. U.S.A." and has the oval logo with " GUARANTEE " inside the logo. This is the trade mark of the PECK, STOW & WILCOX in Southington CT U.S.A.. This chisel is .57" wide x 12.2" long overall, the steel alone is 8.3" long. The OUT-channel sharpened gouge chisel is sharp and ready to use, there is no rust or pitting noted, some minor staining, a very nice polished finish on the steel. The hardwood handle has the leather cap ring on the end, it is very solid, and fits good, appears to have had a very heavy clear varnish over the red stain at one time, most of the varnish has worn off. A nice, top quality old chisel by a well know toolmaker in The U.S.A.!
