This is a very heavy duty 1.56" diameter heavy duty boring machine auger bit marked "1-1/2 - B T. PUGH PHILA PA. U.S.A.. " on the oversize 3/4" diameter shank. This auger was made by and believed to have been manufacturing in the 1870's era. This auger feature an extra long threaded lead screw, double cutting edge and spur. This drill appears to have never been used., the cutting edges are in great shape! The shank is a bit different than most antique augers, it is about 11" which gives plenty of length for various depth adjustments! The auger is 20" long overall. A rare top quality auger bit/drill, by a rarely seen maker!
