Gorgeous Dark Red  Lace Vintage Guatemalan Huipil From Coban of Alta Verapaz This is a wonderful vintage huipil from  Alta Verapaz Guatemala. It features a hand embroidered round neckline and shoulders with handmade crochet applique flowers.   crocheted lace- with beautiful shiny multi-colored flowers. It is a wonderful traditional huipil style, but is made of cooler material for a hot day. The sides are stitched up.    The city of Cobán is the capital of the department of Alta Verapaz in central Guatemala.   I bought  this directly from the maker in  a small town in  Alta Verapaz  area of the country on they way to a bio-reserve in the Sierra Minas mountain region.    It is about 38" across the front and the same for the back and about 20" long from shoulder to hem.     The condition is excellent.   They style is not common and it is made in an area that is not traveled often by visitors.
