Royal Delft Faience or The De Porceleyne Fles Co.

A lovely Porceleyne Fles tile.
This is a four and one-quarter-inch tile. The condition is very good with only a few minor flaws if any. Pretty sure it is perfect. Royal Delft Faience or The De Porceleyne Fles Co., made a line of wonderful Cloisonne decorative tiles. This company developed glazes unlike any of the other tile companies that were working then and has never been repeated. Their Variegation in shades and texture is what makes them stand alone in their glazes. No two tiles are ever the same. The tiles that were done for the American market were meant for installation, hence no border around them. De Porceleyne Fles made many of the same tile designs as well as many other designs for the European market and these tiles were always self bordered and having two holes in them for hanging with a string or wire. These were generally marked with an impressed bottle mark and the word Delft on the backside. The American ones were only ink stamped Holland and this was not always true, many are not marked at all. The American tiles date no later than 1928. European tile up to 1964. They are very well documented and have always been a favorite of the Arts and crafts collector.
