Pair Royal Worcester Vases in Faux Lacquer Depicting Japanese Potters Story

Our rare pair of rectangular Royal Worcester vases come from the socalled potters story line and feature a faux ivory and lacquered appearance and the scenes of potters firing kaolin and decorating pots. Red mark with date code for 1872, and attributed to the master modeller, James Hadley, and master decorator, James Callowhill.

Measures: 7 3/4 by 6 1/4 by 4 3/8 inches. 

Each in excellent condition.  There appear to be restorations including inpainting to a few areas.  We may inspect and photograph under UV upon request.

An example of the vase on the right. entitled "the oven for burning clay" and "the painting of the wares", can be found in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art under accession number 2018.62.96, donated by Helene Fortunoff and Robert Grossman. 

The London retailer, Thomas Goode, exhibited a similar pair at the 1872 London International Exhibition, shown on page 151 of the exhibition catalogue.
