Bertel Thorvaldsen Plaster Rondel Plaque of Night

Unavailable

Our client's antique plaster cast of Night after Bert Thorvaldsen (1777-1840) is mounted in a giltwood frame measuring approximately 36 in (91.4 cm) in diameter.

The original by Danish sculptor Bertel Thovaldsen (1777-1840) was modeled in 1815 and depicts the angel of Night holding her children, Sleep and Death.  A master sculptor considered by many to be the successor to Antonio Canova, this is one of his finest achievements.  A plaster casting of identical size, unframed, circa 1900, is in the permanent collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum
