Our client's German gold snuff box features a portrait of Napoleon by Jean-Baptiste Isabey (1767–1855).  3 1/2 by 2 1/2 by 5/8 inches.  Weight:  135 g, 4.76 oz, 4.34 troy oz.

Hallmarks on the underside include a lion rampant, maker's mark that is heavily worn and assay mark.

Jean-Baptiste Isabey (1767–1855) was born in Nancy and arrived in Paris in 1785 where he was briefly studied with Jacques-Louis David. He soon was acquanted with the Beauharnais family and thereafter to the Emperor. He is considered the master of the early-19th-century French miniatures. His works can be found in museums around the world.
