Return Policy

COA

Some of the items available on Merfield's website are accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity. Each COA has been performed within the range of knowledge and resources available, and contain verifiable documented information, references, explanations, or evidence pertaining to the authenticity of an item. COA’s can be sent to the prospective Buyer for perusal BEFORE they decide to purchase. Clients can inspect the COA ahead of time, by reading, reviewing, and corroborating the evidence. A COA will also accompany the actual item when it is received by the purchaser. An appraisal from a recognised authority or an expert on the subject, which includes a statement or guarantee of authenticity (COA), may also be provided with certain pieces.

PROVENANCE

Where applicable, valid provenance specifically describes the piece that’s being offered and contains important information, including: dimensions, medium, date of creation (if known), title (if known), and other relevant details. The prospective Buyer may view provenance details BEFORE a purchase. An appraisal performed by an expert or authority constitutes valid provenance, and good provenance may also be attained by the authenticity of the ownership history. Names of galleries that previously owned a certain piece constitute valid provenance: if they are known and respected dealers or authorities on the subject or can provide concrete evidence that the art is by the artist. Provenance (held by belief, without proof or certain knowledge: as an assumption or hypothesis,) by respected and credentialled authorities, does not qualify as acceptable provenance.

RETURNS

All items sold as is, and as described. If you have specific questions, please contact us before placing your order. Refunds will only be granted if the item is materially and significantly different than the description. All returns are at the expense of the buyer, and shipping fees cannot be refunded.  Any insured packages that are damaged will need to be taken to the local post office and a claim filed by the recipient, or filed online. Returning the damaged item to the shipper voids the insurance, therefore, no returns are accepted.

REFUNDS

Merfield warrants a money-back guarantee with each COA to the original Purchaser, should the item ever be proven NOT to be authentic, by a licensed and Certified Art Professional. Whenever authenticity is at issue, only conclusive statements of authorship from a RECOGNIZED or QUALIFIED expert on the art, artist or piece in question are acceptable: not admissible however are, informal statements, opinions or off hand price estimates from casual third-party dealers of sellers or anyone who happens to buy or sell or appraise or otherwise transact in occasional works by the artist. Claims against this guarantee must be documented within 90 days of purchase, (at the cost of the Buyer), and be indisputably proven with concrete facts and evidence, and not just in the best opinion of a qualified expert or authority. Should you have any queries about an item you are thinking of buying, we urge you to contact the Seller or an independent expert, dealer, consultant, or appraiser at your discretion.
