Our client's finely sculpted and cast bronze bust depicting the Assyrian queen, Semiramis, by the French master, Pierre Eugene Emile Herbert (1828-1893) measures 24 inches tall and dates from the late 19th century.  Based on the original model presented at the Paris Salon in 1874. Signed on side EMILE HEBERT.

Remembered and romanticized throughout history, the beautiful and victorious Semiramis is believed to be based on the historical queen regent, Sammu-Ramat, ruler of the Assyrian Empire from 811ā€“806 BCE.  She was wife to King Shamshi-Adad V and ruled as regent for her son Adad Nirari III until he came of age.
