Shelton Steel Low Angle Block Plane like Stanley 118

Here's a nice used low angle (15 degrees cutter bed) block plane that I don't see very many of these days! It has very similar shape and features the the Stanley No. 118 steel bed plane. It's a handy little tool that features an all steel body! The purpose of the steel body had the do with wood shop schools where cast iron plane may be dropped and broken, and steel plane will not crack like the cast iron planes would and often did. It's only 6.25" long, and has a 1.62" wide cutter. It has a good working cutter depth adjustment feature. It is pressed form steel, it's very solid, and the steel is clean. It is very much like the Stanley No. 118, incomparing it to the Stanley steel No. 118 the body is basically the same size and shape, the Stanley is 12 degrees on the bed angle where the Shelton is 15 degrees, and the Shelton has a different style cutter depth adjustment assembly, but the Shelton works great, and will has some lateral movement in the cutter to allow for setting the cutter to the need alignment of the cutter and work piece. The cutter is marked "STANLEY SW MADE IN U.S.A.", but it is a modified cutter to fit the pin connector of the blade adjustment feature. The condition is good with about 75% of it's original black paint intact on the body and the cast iron cap cover. We note some minor pitting on the unpainted surface, but none on the cutter or having any affect on the use of this plane. It has a good sharp cutter intact good length and stock left. A great cutting block plane, for those little jobs!
