Like new condition. Review: Stand the storm Kirkus Reviews - Editorial review Using personal recollections of ""slaver"" ship captains and Africans who made the crossing--the ""middle passage""--Reynolds gives an account of what life may have been like for the more than 9 million slaves carried to the new world over three centuries. A careful profile is constructed of the geographic relocation of the African people, the forms of labor they were forced into, and how their native cultures were assimilated into their new homelands. He also succinctly describes how slavery was part of African culture centuries ago and how Europeans exploited this condition to obtain slaves for labor in the Americas. Also discussed is the rise of abolitionist sentiments in the US and Britain, fueled by humanitarian and economic reasoning. But Reynolds' approach, while adequate for general readers, may leave serious scholars of Afro-American history looking for more.
