This is a nice clean Starrett No. 85 Improved Extended (wing) Divider marked, " L.S. STARRETT CO. ATHOL MASS." which is the late 1800's era maker's mark, pre-1909. We do note a past owner's name stamped on one side. This is a hard to find model design, to scribe precision radius's and circles up to about 24" diameter, or use with the outside divider legs to measure outside dimensions to about 12" and about the same for the inside caliper legs. This one is in good condition, all the adjustments work fine the scribe points are sharp and ready to use. Nice quality, about the best divider available in the late 1800's when it was made. The dividers measure from 8.5-11.5" long overall, depending on how the adjustable points are positioned in the divider body, about the same with the caliper legs in place. We also note that a standard round pencil will fit into the leg holder, so you can use this tool as a compass also if you wish. The divider legs and the inside and outside legs are all in very good working order, very little wear. A nice one!
