This a nice clean hermaphrodite lock joint caliper with three different threaded adjustment area.  One is for the extension point, two is for the fine adjustment, and the last is to lock the center joint in place once set.  It is marked THE L.S. STARRETT CO. ATHOL MASS. U.S.A.. The No. 242 is in the well known old Starrett catalogs. It's the 4 inch long size, about 4.4 inch long overall. The adjustable length scribe point in very good condition overall, with very little wear to speak of, good clean metal surfaces, no rust, no owner's names.
