Tarahumara Indian basket/lid old

Unavailable
This wonderful patterned keepsake basket with lid appears to be from an earlier period of time than some of the baskets because of the great patina on the outside compared with the color under the lid and inside this wonderful Indian basket with lid. This estate had many many different Indian baskets so I am not sure it is from the Tarahumara Indians. It also appears to be single woven. So use your own judgement. The Tarahumara Indian Baskets are skillfully made from materials found in the Copper Canyon area of Mexico, Sotol and Pine Needles. Sotol is a native desert plant related to the Yucca plant found in the southwestern United States. The baskets are double woven for durability and to hold their shape. The Tarahumara Indians are one of the few tribes that have mastered the skill of double weaving. This basket is from an estate sale so I don't know the age. Still has the faint smell of pine. Outstanding decorative basket
