Tiffany Durfee #20 oak Grandfather clock

Unavailable
Walter Durfee Pattern #20 oak cased grandfather clock in great original condition. This clock is shown on page 152 of Longcase Clocks and Standing Regulators by Tran Duy Ly. It has the Durfee stamp on the back of the moon dial (see photo). The top has a devils head carving. The hood has the open carved sides and a door with a beveled glass. The entire case is, in the typical style of Durfee, beautifully designed with intricate carved moldings, raised beveled panels, detailed carvings and Waterford beveled crystal on the front door and sides. The base is totally carved with lovely claw feet on the front and rear. The three weight movement has nine original tubes and strikes the hour and plays chimes on each quarter hour. It plays Westminster chimes or Chimes on eight bells. It has a revolving moon dial with the original paint (there are some small losses to the paint). The face is beautifully embossed with the original gilt patina. The dial appears never to have been polished. We decided not to re-silver the dial but this could easily be done for an extra charge if requested. The clock was retailed by Tiffany and Co, New York. The nameplate is at the base of the dial (see photo). We have had several repairs made since these photos were taken. The holder for the strike tube was missing and has been replaced by a custom crafted replica. Also, one of the hooks that pulls back the strike hammer on one of the tubes has been replaced. Neither of these restorations can be seen when the clock is set up. They are simply there to have the movement function properly. Durfee was the premier clock maker of the turn of the century period and this is one of the best clocks he made! Circa: 1900. Dimensions: 103H x 26W x 16D. Finish: Great original honey colored finish with a wonderful mellow patina. More photos available on request. Price: $32,500.00
