Tiffany Style Turtleback Hanging Lamp Hall Lantern

Unavailable

Our client's large hanging metal lamp, apparently bronze, after the original by Tiffany Studios has a green/brown patina, acorn form with red turtlebacks and yellow/green and red stained glass.  Measures approximately 35 inches tall and 13 inches across.  With two standard original porcelain sockets and modern UL listed cord with black casing with grounding wire running separately and tapped around cord with black electrical tape, connected to a modern type D (three prong) electrical plug. Cord length 10 feet. Weight:  22 lbs.  Could be used as is, plugged into outlet, or plug removed and connected to a junction box. Apparently unsigned, this is one of the largest and finest reproductions of its kind we've seen in our 20 years in business, and is believed to date from the 1930s to 1960s.

We have only seen two original examples of this model.  One is in the collection of the Chrysler Museum of Art in Norfolk, Virginia, and on December 8, 2022, Sotheby's in New York offered this model in lot 411 of their sale of Important Design with an estimate of $200,000-300,000 which closed at $693,000.  Literature: Alastair Duncan, Tiffany Lamps and Metalware, Woodbridge, Suffolk, 2019, p. 328, no. 1317

And importantly, our reproduction is only the second we have seen offered anywhere online in the past two decades
