Vatican Mosaic Depicting Painting After Raphael

Our lovely mosaic from the Vatican studio depicts the Roman water carrier depicted in the lower right corner of the painting by Raphael, aka Raffaello Sanzio da Urbino 1483-1520), aka Raphael, known as The Fire in the Borgo.  Painted between 1514 and 1517, it is one of numerous fresco paintings that adorn the Stanze di Raffaello in the Apostolic Palace at the Vatican.  The painting depicts Pope Leo IV stopping a fire in 847 with a benediction from a balcony in front of the Old St. Peter's Basilica.

Vatican label on rear bears the printed title, Broccata di Raffaello with No. 4737A.

Original frame measures 14 by 21 inches and the mosaic 8.5 by 15 inches.

In very good condition.  There are scratches and wear at the corners of the giltwood frame, including minimal rubbing wear to the gilding, very small chip losses and dents.
