Saint Fabiola was a nurse during the late Roman empire influenced by Jerome known for her practice of asceticisms and charity.  She built and managed a hospital in Rome that served the poor.

Jeean-Jacques Henner was a master known for his use of sfumato and chiaroscuro in figurative paintings, including religious subjects, portraits and nudes.  His portrait of Fabiola was painted in 1895 but went missing during the twentieth century.  It was a very popular work and copied frequently by admirers and reproduced in lithographs as well.
